You can visit the city during the day, and watch the stars twinkle above at night.
Whether you’ve got the supped-up class A, the family-friendly fifth wheel, or prefer a primitive old fashion camping experience to really disconnect, there’s a perfect campground for you. From Cedar Creek to Elgin, here are the best campsites we found in Bastrop County, where you can get away from it all!
The Oaks RV Park
Cedar Creek, TX
The Oak RV Park in Cedar Creek, Texas, features multiple long and short term sites for travel trailers, fifth wheels, and motorhomes. Sites are equipped with either gravel or concrete pads and full hookups, including water, electricity, and sewer.
Additionally, the Oaks offers primitive camping sites on a first-come, first-serve basis, and provides a sparkling bathhouse with the proper facilities. They have a brand new laundry room, with credit card friendly machines to make your life just that much easier and your pockets lighter from carrying around quarters. With a shared pavilion, firepit, and clubhouse, there’s a sense of community at this little park.
You’re not on top of each other, and everyone is incredibly friendly and welcoming. It’s an excellent choice when visiting Bastrop County, right on Highway 71, and only 20 minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown Austin. Plus, if you’re trying to sneak in a little work while visiting, the Oaks RV Park has pretty good internet that comes free of charge with your site. No cable here, but with the stars twinkling above, you’re not going to need it!
Bastrop RV Park
Bastrop, TX
If you want to stay closer to the central shopping plazas and right near the highway, Bastrop RV Park is the place for you. Sites here are full-hookups and include cable tv, plus level concrete pads for you to park on. Directly behind you, and within a close distance, is the central shopping plaza of Bastrop County, that has a variety of big-brand stores, chain eateries, and even a Starbucks.
You’ll find anything you could possibly need right at your fingertips! Bastrop RV Park also has a few really cool things for guests that you wouldn’t usually see. A ½ acre lake on property is stocked full of bass, catfish, and bluegill, primed for a sunny afternoon of fishing in the warm Texas spring!
Meanwhile, the kiddos can enjoy hanging out with the mini donkeys and horses from the Bar-B Ranch! Additional facilities include clean restrooms and showers, with single stalls that require code entry and laundry facilities.
Buena Vista RV Park
Elgin, TX
Get back to nature at the Buena Vista RV Park in Elgin, where you’ll get great views of Texas wildlife right outside your camper! Located in a wooded area, you won’t need to worry about any light pollution to get the full picture of those Texas stars. Buena Vista RV Park also has a gorgeous stone-lined pond for fishing right on site, as well as wooded areas for hiking and to really feel like you’re in the middle of the rural Texas wilderness!
If you’re looking for a primitive camping experience, they also offer tent camping sites so you can pitch your tent and get back to the way life used to be! This is also an excellent campground to choose if you’re traveling with the family since there’s a large gazebo on the property where you can gather together to have a meal. Whether it’s a family reunion or a get-together with old college friends, Buena Vista is an excellent campground for gatherings.
Buescher State Park
Smithville, TX
If you’ve never camped in a state park, you’re seriously missing out, and you should take your first adventure to Buescher State Park! This beautiful state-owned nature reserve features a 30-acre lake for swimming, kayaking, and fishing, right out your campsite door! Hike or bike one of the many trails and take in the beauty of nature all around you, as you frolic with deer, wild boar, and armadillos in their natural habitat.
Campsites offer water and electric hook-ups only, but if you have an RV, there’s a shared dump station for you to use. Plus, you’ll get both a grill and a fire ring at your site. However, be sure to check in with the rangers to ensure there isn’t a fire ban in place before lighting. Often, the area will be arid and hot in the summer, which is a perfect time to start an unintended forest fire. Do your due diligence and ensure that it’s safe to have a blast at your site before you light it up!
Pleasant Grove RV Park
Elgin, TX
Located in Elgin within Bastrop County, Pleasant Grove RV Park is a family-owned and operated private campground on 21 acres. They have grass sites that may not be too level, but there are tons of trees to keep you fresh in the Texas sun. One of the best things about this park, though, is that there is a Pecan Orchard right on site! If you didn’t know, the pecan is the only commercially grown nut in the state of Texas, and the trees are indigenous to the river valleys.
Bastrop County sits right on the Texas Colorado River, making it one of the largest areas for pecan growth. Pleasant Grove has more than 200 trees on their property, so staying here, you’re getting a truly authentic Texas experience!
Lost Pines RV Park
Bastrop, TX
Bastrop County is home to the Lost Pines Forest. For those that aren’t familiar, it’s a 13-mile strip of loblolly pine trees that seem to stand alone. What’s unique about this is that there are no similar trees in the area, the closest being more than 100 miles away from the Piney Woods Region. The theory is the forest separated during the glacier period, with the Lost Pines ending up breaking away from the more massive forest covering Alabama, Louisiana, and parts of Oklahoma.
Lost Pines RV Park is in the heart of this region in Bastrop. The park features full hook-up sites, as well as cottage rentals for those who don’t have a self-contained unit. Only 5 minutes from Bastrop State Park, you’ll find large pull-thru, level sites, that are also big rig friendly. Located on the main highway Texas 71, you have easy access to all the county has to offer!
Bluebonnet Campground
Bastrop, TX
If you’re a transient worker, in town for a project, or a full-time RVer looking for a place to park for a week or two, Bluebonnet Campground is a reasonable option in the area. With Bastrop being so close to Austin, several events happen in the city over the year, as well as seasonal work at ranches, that there’s a sizeable transient worker population. Bluebonnet Campground offers accommodations for folks traveling to the area for work and needs an RV campground.
They only provide weekly and monthly RV sites but have a selection of tent camping sites if you’re looking for a quick overnight spot. Bluebonnet is also one of the only RV parks in the area that is open 24/7 with employee coverage at all times. Not only is this a boost for safety, but it’s useful for those who are traveling with a strict timeline that may not be able to arrive between the designated hours the office is open.
Highway 71 RV Park
Cedar Creek, TX
With 24 acres, the Highway 71 RV Park has 129 RV sites with full hookups, wifi, and cable right on the main drag through Bastrop County and close to the big-box shopping district. They have a wide range of on-site amenities for guests, including a heated saltwater pool that’s open as weather permits, work-out room, dog park, and playground.
It’s very close to Circuit of the Americas racetrack and caters folks who are in the area to enjoy one of the races going on there. They also offer free breakfast on Saturday and Sunday for guests – something you rarely see at a campground but is more of a hotel offers! This is an excellent choice if you’re traveling to the area to partake in one of the fantastic events in Bastrop County (or even Austin – it’s only 20 minutes away!).
Pinewood RV Estates
Smithville, TX
If you’re a snowbird and looking to spend your winter enjoying the mild temperatures of central Texas, Pinewood RV Estates caters to long-term stays with level sites for your RV. They offer full-hookup, plus, cable, and wifi, as well as a personal storage unit, so you can easily access your things without digging into your basement storage!
Enjoy the Lost Pines region, hike the hundreds of trails in the area, and explore Austin without the hustle and bustle of city living. Pinewood RV Estates also has a dog park so you can get fido his exercise, as well as a creek for fishing and reflect.
